Gamma can be a sensible choice when you want to turn a checked outline into a presentation and share it from a browser. The decision becomes less straightforward when your client needs to edit a PowerPoint file, your team uses Google Slides, or you expect a permanently replenishing free AI allowance.
This review focuses on that handoff decision. It complements our AI presentation makers comparison, rather than repeating its shortlist.
Research basis: An editorial assessment of official Gamma pricing and help documentation checked on October 13, 2026. We inspected the public pricing controls, but did not generate a deck, test exports or benchmark output quality. Recommendations below are our interpretation of the documented capabilities. The cover is a generated editorial illustration, not a product screenshot.
Choose Gamma for a workflow where you can review the draft in Gamma and accept responsibility for checking the final delivery format. Start with Free to investigate whether that workflow suits you; consider Plus when removing Gamma branding or receiving a recurring AI allowance has practical value.
If the work must stay inside a client's established slide editor from the outset, investigate Plus AI. If your main task is choosing and adapting visual templates across several types of marketing assets, consider Canva.
There is no universal winner: the required handoff matters more than which generator produces an attractive first draft.
| Your situation | Our recommendation | Reason |
|---|
| A consultant preparing a short proposal that can be reviewed in Gamma | Shortlist Gamma | The creation and review workflow can remain in one workspace |
| An educator preparing an occasional deck | Investigate Free first | Check whether the initial AI budget covers your intended use |
| A freelancer delivering an editable Google Slides file | Compare Gamma with Plus AI | Gamma documents a PPTX upload path; Plus works in Slides |
| A team buying several editing seats | Calculate the full seat cost first | Individual paid plans are billed per member |
| A department requiring a reusable PowerPoint slide master | Evaluate another workflow before committing | Gamma documents that its exports do not include a slide master layout |
These are workflow recommendations, not results from a head-to-head product test.
Suppose you have a verified project brief, a scope table and a proposed timeline. The client needs a short proposal and might ask to edit it later.
Before generating anything, decide whether the deliverable is a Gamma link, a static PDF or an editable slide file. A polished browser presentation is insufficient if the contract calls for a file that the client's team can maintain.
Prepare a compact outline: problem, proposed approach, scope, timeline, costs and next decision. Keep approved figures separate from descriptive text. Give the tool explicit instructions to preserve those figures and avoid adding unsupported claims.
Then evaluate a representative section containing your actual difficult elements: a table, a dense slide and the typography you need. Review it in the receiving application before committing a complete client deliverable to the workflow. This is a suggested evaluation process; we have not performed that experiment.
For a deck built from a sales export, our CSV cleaning and monthly reporting guide covers the upstream choice. A presentation generator does not establish whether the source totals are correct.
Gamma supports creating presentations and importing existing material. Its current import documentation distinguishes bringing a file in as-is from using its content to create something new. In Gamma 5, it says imported decks can retain their design and structure; the classic generator imports text rather than the original design.
The documented file limits are 200 MB for PPTX and DOCX and 100 MB for PDF. Some imported charts may become images. That matters if you expect a colleague to update chart data later: visual resemblance and editability are separate requirements. See Gamma's import guide.
Our recommendation is to settle three questions before importing: must wording remain exact, must chart data stay editable, and does the design need to match an existing template? Ask for the required outcome explicitly and inspect it afterward.
The following USD prices were read from the official pricing page with both billing settings. Amounts are per seat, before applicable tax. The annual column is a monthly equivalent with the annual charge shown; it is not a monthly subscription at that price.
| Individual plan | Pay monthly | Pay annually | AI credits |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | $0 | 400 initially; no recurring refresh |
| Plus | $12/seat/month | $9/seat/month equivalent; $108/year | 1,000/month |
| Pro | $25/seat/month | $18/seat/month equivalent; $216/year | 4,000/month |
| Ultra | $100/seat/month | $90/seat/month equivalent; $1,080/year | 20,000/month |
Free permits up to 10 slides per prompt; the individual paid tiers permit up to 100. Those are generation limits, not a statement that every deck must stop at that length. Plus removes Gamma branding, while Pro adds features including custom branding, detailed analytics and API access. See official pricing and plan details.
Gamma's help center says new Free users receive 400 credits, and those credits do not refresh. Paid-plan credits refresh monthly even when the subscription is billed annually. Unused plan credits can accumulate up to twice the monthly allowance; paid users can purchase additional credits.
Generation, AI editing and image actions consume credits, with consumption depending on the action and model. Do not turn 400 credits into a promised number of complete presentations: the documentation does not justify that fixed conversion. Credits on individual plans belong to each member rather than a shared team pool. See how Gamma credits work.
Plus is the first plan to consider if the client cannot accept Gamma branding. Pro needs a reason beyond ordinary slide creation—such as a documented feature you require or a larger recurring AI budget. Ultra is difficult to justify for occasional proposals without measuring your actual consumption first.
Budget for everyone who needs a paid seat. Two Plus seats at the published monthly rate cost $24 per month before tax; the annual option totals $216 for those two seats. Additional credits are a separate potential expense. Confirm the live checkout conditions before purchasing.
Gamma documents PDF, PNG and PPTX export, with Google Slides reached by uploading the PPTX. Its export guide says the result follows Present Mode rather than Edit Mode. It also documents editable table export and notes that Google Slides substitutes fonts embedded in uploaded PPTX files.
Exports do not include a PowerPoint slide master layout. A PDF is static, so interactive content does not become an interactive PDF. Paid-workspace status must be active when exporting to remove the Gamma badge. See the export guide.
Our practical recommendation: treat the receiving application as the acceptance checkpoint. Inspect text wrapping, charts and tables there, especially if someone else must edit the file. Gamma also publishes export troubleshooting guidance for scaling and rendering differences. We have not measured their frequency.
Reasons to shortlist Gamma: It offers a no-payment starting point, multiple presentation delivery formats and documented import options. Plus can address a specific commercial requirement—unbranded delivery—without requiring the higher individual tiers.
Reasons to pause: Free AI usage is finite; ongoing costs scale with paid seats and possibly extra credits. An export-and-import handoff adds a review step. Missing slide masters can matter for a corporate template workflow, even if the individual slides remain usable.
These conclusions follow from the documented workflow and limits. They are not claims about generation speed, factual accuracy or design quality established by our testing.
Plus AI is a relevant alternative when PowerPoint or Google Slides is the required working environment. Its official site describes native operation in both editors and a seven-day trial followed by paid plans. A trial should not be treated as a permanent free tier. This makes it worth comparing for client handoffs; it does not prove superior output.
Canva is worth considering for a template-led presentation that belongs to a wider set of visual assets. Its presentation template page documents editing, collaboration and PowerPoint/PDF downloads. Check the assets and features your chosen design requires before assuming the entire workflow is free.
For a broader shortlist, return to our presentation makers guide. This review's recommendation is narrower: choose around the deliverable and its future editor.
If the recipient must maintain a PowerPoint file, our Gamma alternatives for editable PowerPoint handoffs compares Canva and Beautiful.ai against a shared acceptance brief and current export plan gates.
Open the Gamma listing, then use the official Free plan to evaluate a representative, non-sensitive section of your own presentation. Choose the required delivery format before generating a complete deck. If the handoff passes your checks and branding or credits become the constraint, compare the relevant paid tier with your actual workload.
If editing inside PowerPoint or Google Slides is already mandatory, compare Plus AI before moving the project into a separate workspace.
