What it is
OpenRouter is a unified interface that connects developers to hundreds of models and providers through a single API and chat environment. Instead of managing separate integrations for different services, users can route requests across multiple providers with automated failovers and custom privacy policies.
Key features
- Access over 500 active models from more than 80 different providers through one integration
- Automated fallback routing to alternative providers if a model goes down
- Custom data and privacy policies to control where prompts are sent
- Budget controls and spending limits for team workspaces
- Prompt caching support to reduce latency and execution costs
Who it's for
OpenRouter is built for developers, indie hackers, startups, and engineering teams that want to integrate multiple models without managing separate vendor contracts and fragmented API endpoints.
Pricing
OpenRouter offers a free tier with access to select models and limited daily requests. Paid tiers operate on a pay-as-you-go model with variable platform fees depending on the selected plan, ranging from Standard to Business and Enterprise options.
